【Abstract】 Sister Carrie focuses on the society of America during the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century,and it has been considered as a great novel which reflects the rising consumerism.The novel takes the living condition of a country girl Carrie,who has left for Chicago and later New York,as its main thread.A variety of incidents have resulted from her endless desire for consuming.Therefore,I am going to analyze the whole novel in order to reveal the living conditions of those characters in this novel from three perspectives,the consuming of goods,the consuming of symbols and the vanishing of the desire for consuming.更多还原
