【Abstract】 A two-part allegorical saying,of which the first part,always stated,is descriptive,while the second part,sometimes unstated,carries the message,is a typical idiomatic Chinese expression.However,two-part allegorical sayings,culturally-loaded expressions with typical structures are to bring about interference in translating and even the misunderstanding that they are untranslatable.On the basis of the analytical and comparative study of the two English versions of Hong Lou Meng,one of which is translated by Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang,the other by David Hawkes and John Minford,this paper testifies the translatability of two-part allegorical sayings.更多还原
