【摘要】 加拿大传教士怀履光是基督教河南圣公会的主教,他1910年到任后,在开封、商丘、洛阳等地建教堂、办学校、开医院,还开展了一些慈善和社会救济工作,着力培养中国高层神职人员,促进了基督教在河南的传播和发展。与此同时,他利用主教的身份大肆攫取河南的文物,尤其是对洛阳的两处周代贵族大墓,进行了破坏性的盗掘,致使大量珍贵文物流散国外,对中国文化造成了极大的破坏。更多还原

【Abstract】 William Charles White, the Canadian preacher, served as a bishop of the Anglican Church in Henan, China. He began to set up churches, schools and hospitals in Kaifeng, Shangqiu and Luoyang when he came to power in 1910. He also carried out several jobs about charity and social-aid. He was working hard at training senior clergymen in China as well as developing and spreading the Christianity in Henan. Meanwhile, he took advantage of the bishop position and plundered Henan cultural relics as many as he could. Particularly, he plundered two grand noble tombs of the Zhou Dynasty in Luoyang so crazily that many of the rare cultural relics were scattered abroad ever since.
