【Abstract】 Insulin glargine is a long-acting, man-made version of human insulin that provides 24-hour coverage to manage diabetes by providing a continuous level of insulin, which is similar to the slow, steady (basal) secretion of insulin provided by the normal pancreas. Insulin glargine is used to treat type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes and also to treat people with type 2 (noninsulin-dependent) diabetes who need long-acting insulin to control their hyperglycemia. Daily injections with insulin glargine would not lead to the accumulations of circulating insulin level. A lower incidence of hypoglycaemia, especially at night, was reported in most trials with insulin glargine when compared with neutral protamine hagedorn (NPH) insulin. The pharmacology, pharmacokinetic and clinical evaluation of insulin glargine are reviewed.更多还原
