【Abstract】 Yuan Shikai and Ci Xi were regarded as the most critical persons in modern Chinese history.The relation between them underwent three stages.At first Ci Xi showed a little faith in Yuan Shikai,then Yuan Shikai began to gain real favor from Ci Xi,finally Ci Xi’s attitude transformed from trusting totally to watching him out.In the relation between them unity was the major aspect while antagonism was the minor aspect.The research in the relation between them will help us master exactly the historical clues of the alternation of the political situation during the Late Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China.
