【Abstract】 Compounds both in Chinese and English are usually comprised of two content words, but one of the two content words will be grammaticalized for some compounds. The mechanisms of grammacalization includes: metaphor,generalization, differentiation, mixture, loan-translation, analogy and automation. The grammaticalization of compounds may be caused by one mechanism, also can be the results of the co-functioning of several mechanisms. Metaphor is the most important one for grammaticalization in both Chinese and English compounds.更多还原
