【Abstract】 Combining the figure-background theory with context theory, mainly from the combination of theory and examples, this article discusses the basic content and linguistic implication of figure-background theory; and the specific applications of figure-background theory in college English teaching. The article also introduces the psychological cognitive basis of figure-background theory and tries to discover the relations between the theory and college English teaching.
