【Abstract】 In 1997, the outsiders, the ground-breaking work in American young adult literature, celebrated its 30th anniversary of publication. Its author S. E. Hinton is considered as a representative writer in new realist young adult literature. In her new realist novels, we can find out one important feature, that is, the romantic colour shown in the following aspects. First, her themes are the embodiment of her and young adults’ idealistic pursuit. Second, she creates characters who are actually idealistic heroes.
