【Abstract】 Abraham Flexner, the founder and first director of the Institute, was a famous critic and reformer in the history of the American higher education. Flexner’s unique idea on the higher education, which was developed after many years research on higher education systems in varies counties, helped to build the frame of the Institute. This year is both the 75th anniversary of the publishing of Flexner’s profound book Universities, American,English,German, and the founding of the Institute. Therefore, a brief historical retrospect on Flexner’s theory on higher education and on the establishing of the Institute will be of great benefit to today’s research organizations.更多还原
