【Abstract】 Er Lang was a folk celestial in ancient times. Among so many celestials he was a unique one because his surname was changed many times during its spreading process. Beginning with arranging the evolution of Er Lang’s image, this paper explores the transformation of his antetype in aspects of his remarkable ability and final religious arrangement in Journey to the West. In addition,linking with Ming Dynasty’s trends of thought,this paper analyses his unique action at saving his mother by splitting the hill and never fawning on the governor, and reveals his tameless but loyal personality, which is a unity combining resistance and obedience.更多还原
