【Abstract】 With the development of ICTs,geography is taking place a new revolution.The most remarkable representation is that the space pattern has been changed or is being changed by the development of ICTs,which specially embodies in the transformation from geographical space to geo-cyberspace combined geographical space with cyberspace together.The external representation of geo-cyberspace is space of flows.The space of flows is the dominating space pattern in information society and offers a new angle for geography research.In view of this,the article makes a geographical perspective to the elementary nature of space of flows from three aspects: the formation mechanism of space of flows,the relationship between space of flows and geo-cyberspace and space of places,and the impact of the development of space of flows on geography.The paper puts forward that the characteristics of space of flows can be recognized from two layers.The first layer including simultaneity and mobility is possessed exclusively by space of flows,the second layer including network and materialization is shared commonly by space of places but different sharply in reflection means.The research also considers that space of flows is the external reflection of geo-cyberspace formed by the combination of geographical space and cyberspace.Finally,the characteristics of space of flows are summarized in four aspects from the geographical angle.First,space of flows creates a new special organization with global network.Second,space of flows includes new elements of cyberspace with the nature of simultaneity and discontinuity.Third,the structural equilibrium of space of flows is a long-term tendency,so it will coexist with space of places for a long time.Fourth,investigating the structure and application from the global and regional angle will have different conclusion.更多还原
