【Abstract】 In the course of constructing socialist modernization, carrying forward the modernization of man is an inexorable requirement for the development of man in the early stage of socialism. Man’s modernization is neither automatic nor spontaneous, so it calls for our "pushing on". The usefulness of critical spirit to the overall development of man lies in that it helps to convert man from being spontaneous to being conscientious in his own development, it makes man conscious of his own mistakes, shortcomings as well as his own potentials and abilities; it enables man to be courageous enough to make decisions and judgments on his own. Therefore it helps man to outgrow his own immaturity and gives rise to his creativity.
