根据上下文猜测词义(英文)
GUESSING WORDS FROM CONTEXT
【摘要】 在外语词汇认知教学中,对大量低频率生词,许多教学法专家历来主张的上策是教给学生根据上下文推测词义的方法。然而,美国学者 Schatz 和 Baldwin,以英语作为母语的美国学生为试验对象,提出了相反的意见。他们的试验结果表明:上下文线索不足以推测词义,上下文通常并不提供线索;上下文线索,正像它们经常帮助人们推测词义一样,其实阻碍人们猜测词义。本文作者以个案调查的方法,研究了4名英语专业1—4年级的优秀生,发现:(1)在自然语言材料中大多数上下文提供线索,帮助人们猜测词义。(2)在自然语言材料中有一些上下文不提供猜测词义的线索。(3)上下文很少提供使读者误入歧途的线索。(4)正常阅读中大多数读者都能利用上下猜测词义。(5)英语水平好的学生比英语水平较低的学生猜测得好。
【Abstract】 For the large number of low-frequency words in foreign language vocabulary acquisition,the strategy many experts in language teaching methods have been advocating is to teach the students the ways to guess from context.However,two American scholars,Schatz and Baldwin(1986),on the basis of their experiments made on American students,argued that contextual clues are unreliable predictors of word meanings. Context does not usually provide clues,but inhibit the correct prediction of word meanings just as often as they facilitate them.
