【Abstract】 Sam Shepard, as a representative of American Avant-garde theatre in the 1960’s, has drawn the attention of such critics as Catherine Hughes, Ruby Cohn.Meanwhile, he is attracting attentions of some Chinese scholars for his masterpiece, Buried Child. The article attempts to expound his early works, which have reflected the characteristics of Avant-garde theatre. These works manifest the suddenness and unpredictability of American modern life and their empty inner world, which is a contradiction to their joyful appearance.更多还原
