As known, the consumption of the rich has gained increasing attention in China. The present paper, based on the Dusenberry hypothesis of relative income consumption, compares the consumption of the rich in China and the West and comes to the conclusion that the consumption of the rich in China is still at the low level and is highly elastic which is a potential trouble to the operation of the macro national economy.
