【Abstract】 Macromolecular colorants have advantage in high strength, resistance to solvents and processability compared with monomolecular colorants, thus can be widely used in many fields. The classification , preparation and characterization of macromolecular colorants were briefly introduced. The applications of such colorants were reviewed with an emphasis on application in biomedicine including diagnosis of disease, determination of DNA order, fluorescent probe.
