【Abstract】 Objective: to find out the best method to distinguish Herba Menthae from Herba Menthae Spicatae. Method: making comparison by their origins, shapes and properties, microscopic characters and physical and chemical tests. Results: Herba Menthae is distinctively different from Herba Menthae Spicatae. Conclusion: Herba Menthae Spicatae cannot replace Herba Menthae.
