【Abstract】 Both Chinese and English feature two conventional ways of talking about temporal movement that are nevertheless contradictory to each other: that the future is ahead of the past, and that the future lies behind the past. This seeming contradiction is caused by the simultaneous circulation of two metaphors in both languages. On the one hand, “we move through time.” On the other, “time is a moving object.” Knowing this could help the E-C or C-E translator steer clear of some difficult spots in rendering time-related expressions.更多还原
