【Abstract】 Did the author of History of Han, the substantial ancestor of Chinese official history works, plagiarize his father’s work or take advantage of the compilatory style of Sima Qian without his own originality This paper intends to clarify the truth of relevant individuals and events about History of Han so as to demonstrate it is the political environment and great events in Ban Gu’s period that determined his historiographic orientation. However, it is against the traditional research on History of Han to argue that the process of its compilation was in cadence with Ban Gu’s political ups and downs.
