【Abstract】 Contradicting some of the foundations of traditional embryology, adult stem cells may have much wider differentiation capabilities, and the phenomenon is not restricted to the origin of a cell in the embryonic trilayer. The ability of multipotential adult stem cells to cross lineage boundaries or transdifferentiate, that is, adult stem cell plasticity, is currently causing heated debate in the scientific press.
