【Abstract】 The thesis is an analysis of Mrs. Sommers, a typical housewife of American lower class in the 19th century, created in the short story “A Pair of Silk Stockings” written by Kate Chopin. Revealing the social background that caused her to suppress her own desires for the sake of her family and the awakening of her feminine consciousness brought about by the 15 dollars she got unexpectedly, the thesis intends to show that it is the nineteenth-century social norm of women’s virtues that prevents women from pursuing their own ideal life.更多还原
