【Abstract】 The Eden-like orchard in Jane Eyre is a mapping from the cultural tradition where different voices from successive historical periods dispute over the right of dominance in society by either male or female. Such disputes show the central position of primeval scenes (PS) such as Eden in the formation and transformation of a culture. PSs are considered as the bedrock supporting a culture, which, as the most ancient layer of cultural accumulation, re-emerge in the perspectives of later periods, hovering over the unconscious in transformed shapes, to be inherited, challenged or overturned by successive generations. The re-emergence and overturning (RO) of PS takes place often at critical moments of the development of a culture when internal and/or external factors exert unprecedented forces on its bedrock. So a close examination of RO of PS might foretell the crisis and new trend that a culture must undergo and it can also help us trace back and reveal fundamental disruptions and abrupt turns that a culture has already gone through.更多还原
