【Abstract】 Sexual reproduction creates a social environment of conflict and competition among individuals as each attempts to maximize its genetic contribution to subsequent generations. Evolution by sexual selection occurs if genetically different individuals differ in their reproductive success as a result of competition within one sex for mates (intrasexual selection) or because of their differential attractiveness to members of the other sex (intersexual selection).
