【Abstract】 The stromatolites are rather developed and widely distributed in the Precambrian carbonate. How to name stromatolites has been debating for a long time. Some scientists insist stromatolites should be named as real fossils. They have defended the use of binonial nomenclature. Nomenclature is a part of taxonomy. Based on statistic, the literature contains description of about 1 500 stromatolites taxa of varioua ranks (Semikkator and Raaben, 2000). In 1992, a draft code for the nomenclature of stromatolites was proposed by Awramik et al.. They cmphasized a stable nomenclature facilitates discussion of stromatolites and their signigicance. In recent years, morphological categories larger than form-genera have been distinguished(Raaben et al., 2001). From above, the writer has got some thoughts as follows: (1) Urgently establish a unified international code for the nomenclature of stromatolites; (2) A systematical sort and discrimination of stromatolite taxa throughout the world are needed; (3) Approaching a method of numerical valurs on stromatolitic morphologic and fabric charactes that might be useful for the identification of taxa.更多还原
