【Abstract】 The English contextual synonym issue is examined in this study from a rhetoric perspective. There are three parts in the paper in which the author starts with an introduction to English figures of speech and contextual synonym phenomena, and then proposes the concept of English contextual synonym and rhetorical devices that bring on the occurrences of these contextual synonyms. An additional discussion of the relationship between English contextual synonym and lexical synonym is provided at the last part. The study in question is ended with the conclusion that the transformation of the contextual synonym is the continuous and abundant resource of the formation of the lexical synonym.更多还原
