The research progress of magnetic fluids is reviewed.The theory,classification and preparation approaches of magnetic fluids are systematically introduced.On the basis of the above the properties and practical applications are discussed.Particular attention goes to the advantages and drawbacks of preparations and the applications in the fields of industrial sealing and biotechnology.
