【Abstract】 Decoration is an important technique applied on most superior furniture. The choice and the treatment of the motifs always have relation with the background in which it is situated and with people’s mentality .The motifs on western furniture develop with its historic vicissitudes, and the main tendency is that their meanings changes to be more beautified and stylized than symbolized, although some different meanings emerges at one time. In some times, classical decorative motifs were used to convey ideas of humanism, naturalism and rationalism. The evolvement of decorative motifs of western furniture infers the general rules of furniture culture: forms of any arts are reflection of people’s thoughts.更多还原
