含钕石榴石磁光效应的量子理论

【摘要】 应用量子理论分析了含钕石榴石中Nd3+离子的磁光效应;计算了50~300K温度范围内离子的Faraday偏转及300K时Faraday偏转与光子能量的函数关系.计算结果表明,Nd:YIG中Nd3+离子的磁光效应主要源于离子内4f3→4f25d的电偶极跃迁;离子能级由于旋轨耦合、晶场作用及超交换作用而劈裂;实验观察到的Faraday偏转为顺磁性的.计算结果与实验符合良好.

【Abstract】 The magneto-optical effects of Nd3+ ions in Nd-substituted yttrium iron garnet are analyzed by using quantum theory. The calculation of Faraday rotation in the temperature range 50-300 K are presented. The calculation of the photon energy dependence of Faraday rotation at 300 K is presented as well. The results show that the magneto-optical effect of Nd3+ ions in Nd:YIG originates mainly from the intra-ionic electric dipole transitions between the 4f3 and 4f25d states split by the spin-orbit, crystal field, and superexchange interactions. The observed Faraday rotation is of the paramagnetic type. The calculated results are in good agreement with experiments.
