【Abstract】 Analyzed the merits and demerits in Thomas’ dichotomous approach to pragmatic failure. While arguing that both pragmalinguistic failure and sociopragmatic failure may account for the learners’ pragmatic failures, the authors also came up with exceptions which seem unaccountable in Thomas’ framework. Accordingly, it was contended that Thomas’ dichotomous approach be improved to sustain its explanatory adequacy.更多还原
