Relationship between apolipoprotein E gene polymorphism and atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease in college students
【Abstract】 Objective: To investigate the effect of apolipoprotein E(apo E) gene polymorphism on blood lipids metabolism and the incidence of atherosclerosis (AS) and coronary heart disease (CHD) in college students . Methods: One hundred fifty two healthy students of Han nationality in the universities of Guangdong region were investigated by using polymerase chain reaction-restricted fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) analysis. With the help of information from questionnaire, they were divded into 2 groups according to whether or not they had positive CHD family history and then they underwent apoE genotype analysis. Results: The allele frequency of apo e4 in positive group was significantly higher than that of negative group (P<0.05). Conclusions: The apo E gene polymorphism correlated significantly with susceptibility to AS and CHD, and e4 may be an important genetic factor of CHD.
