Pigging Period Study for Oil Pipeline With Low Through-put
【Abstract】 Because the throughput of Northeast China pipeline networks is becoming lower, heat loss of pipelines is severe, especially just after paraffin removal. This is a serious problem in pipeline operation. The indigenous paraffin removal process can’t meet economical need. According to the effect of wax deposition thickness on oil transportation cost and the paraffin deposit law of Northeast China pipeline networks, a pigging period model was established to meet with the low throughput pipeline that transports waxy crude oil. It was presented, for the low throughput pipeline, that the optimal residuary paraffin deposit thickness should be determined first, then the pigging period calculated by the conventional means. The model can be solved by some numerical techniques. The results show that for a waxy crude oil pipeline with low through-put, retaining some residuary paraffin deposit thickness after each paraffin removal is reasonable; compared to the conventional means, the pigging period based on optimal residuary paraffin deposit thickness can meet the practice well.
