【Abstract】 The conceptual design of a parallel file system based on network workstation and the Network Parallel File System (NPFS) are introduced in this paper. Its design and implementation is discribed. NPFS makes use of message-passing libraries to provide a portable parallel file system which can execute over heterogeneous network environments or multiprocessor machines.
