【Abstract】 A new motion estimation method based on block splitting and merging is presented, in which small size blocks are used for an FBMA motion estimation, and their error maps are then obtained. Neighbor blocks with good coherence and correlations are merged together according to their error maps to get better motion vectors. Criteria for block merging and splitting are also studied in order to get a motion vector that is most consistent with true motion of the object.
