【Abstract】 This paper makes a comparative study of the classification, distribution and reference of empty categories (ECs) in Chinese and English. The paper proposes a criterion for non finiteness identification in Chinese and then establishes a feature matrix to predict the occurrence of ECs in Chinese. The intersection of these two features — [±θ position][±l position]—demonstrates that variables are crucially involved in Chinese and the occurrence of pro in Chinese is only a very marginal phenomenon.更多还原
