【Abstract】 Language as a medium of communication is closely connected with idea. According to John Locke, idea is the sign of existence in mind while language is the sign of idea through which we can communicate and share our thoughts with others. Therefore, the analysis of many language issues, if not all, can be directly reduced to an analysis of idea. Based on this theory and sticking to the issues of definition, arbitrariness as well as indeterminacy of language meaning, the author in this paper tries to conduct a systematic investigation so as to assess and evaluate Lockes theory of language.更多还原
