【Abstract】 Group and group communication is an important research field in distributed systems. In this paper.the basic concepts on group and group communication are presented at first.and then how to classify group and its communication mechanisms is described. The problems which should be solved when designing group and group communication systems are discussed. The new challenges posed by distributed multimedia group applications are introduced.
