【Abstract】 At first, the complementary energy for the single-edgecracked strip (SEC strip) undercombined tension and bending is constituted by the use of Shih’s fully plastic solutions of theSEC strip under tension and bending. On the basis of this, the elastic-plastic stiffness and Jintegral for the SEC strip, with the material being following Ramberg-Osgood law, are derived. Then the elastic solution of Reissuer plate containing a through crack is corrected to beused for the elastic-plastic analysis of the line-spring model (LSM) by the introduction of anapproximate plastic correction. Although the correction adopted is very approximate, the numerical analysis of the surface-cracked plate shows that the results are in good agreement withthe ones of the three-dimensional elastic-plastic finite element method. Finally, the elasticplastic J integrals are evaluated by the present LSM for several surface-cracked plates.
