【Abstract】 Reinforcing glass fibre decreases the flowability of phenolic composites, thus making the use of such composites in injection moulding process very difficult. Urgent need in China for galss-fibre reinfored phenolic composites in injection moulding process impels us to seek wasy of improving flowability of such composites.Giving the problem much careful consideration and trying out many ways, we obtain an optimal flow increaser "A". Our experimental findings about "A" are:(1) FlowablUty at low temperature of phenolic impregnated glass fibre is improved because (a) the plastication of the melted flow increaser liquid decreases the viscosity of impregnated glass flbres, and (b) extension of chain span of phenolic and slowing down of the curing reaction due to the use of now increaser prolongs the now time. In Fig. 1, curve 1corresponds to no increaser, and curve 2 corresponds to increaser added.(2) Fast curing at high temperature achieved. This is because flow increaser promotes curing of phenolic and thus speeds up curing reaction. In Fie. 2, curve 1 corresponds to no increaser, and curve 2 corresponds to increaser added.(3) 2~3%wt. of flow Increaser is optimal for best effects.(4) Under usual pressure moulding process conditions, the properties of glass fibre reinforced phenolles are: (a) impact strength 56 kJ/m2 and flexureal strength 172 MPa (no increaser) and (b) impact strength 66 kJ/m2 and nexural strength 201 MPa (increaser added).(5) For 2~3%wt. of now increaser added, the thermal and electrical properties,though less satisfsctory, still meet the user’s requirements.
