【Abstract】 To investigate whether the association between vasectomy and prostate cancer might have a hormonal basis long-term effect (10-19 years and over 20 years)of vasectomy on serum teststerone (T), dihydrotestosterone (DHT), luteinizing hormone ( LH ). Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH ) levels were examined in 91 vasectomized men and 91 age-matched non-vasectomized men. The vasectomized men who had had their operation for 10-19 years had higher DHT levels (1. 46/1. 22 mol/ L,P<0. 01), similar T levels and lower T/DHT ratio(14. 5/20. 1 ,P<0. 05)compared with the control group. In the men vasetomized for 20 or more years, T, but not DHT or T/DHT ratio,was high-er(27. 2/23. 0 mol/L,P<0. 05)than corresponding control men. No statistically significant difference was found in LH and FSH levels of both groups of vasectomized and control men. Our results seem to suggest that vasectomy may influence serum an-drogen levels by the action of the conversion from T to DHT following a long term.更多还原
