【Abstract】 Toluenesulfonic acids were prepared by sulfonating toluene with gaseous sulfur trioxide in a well mixed reactor. It was found that lower content of m isomer could be obtained at lower reaction temperature and lower conversion of Toluene, while the content of p isomer seemed to be around 82.5%, independent of those operating factors. A rapid increase in viscosity of reaction mixture was observed with increase in the conversion of toluene.
