The Raman spectroscopic patterns of unmetamorphosed, regionally metamorphosed coals in Guangxi have been systematically analysed. The scattered Peaks of arene (out-of-plane deforming vibration of CH grouP), Cm.C-O-C and -S-H etc. appear in the Raman spectrogram. In general, the background scattered line of coal will be changed from a convex-up curve to a near-horizontal straight line, and the numbers of scattered Peaks will increase gradually with an increase in coal rank.
