【Abstract】 The northwestern part of Shanxi Province is an important part of the Loess Plateau and the mixed agropastoral region in North China. Based on the study of the desertification status, the harmfulness of land desertdication in this region is analyzed, and an overall evaluation of the desertification harmfuiness is carried out according to the present situation of the two types of desertified land. Results of the study can provide a scientific basis for the spatial overall arrangement of the control measures of land desertification.The paper is consisted of 3 parts:1. General situation of the study area: The northwestern part of Shanxi Province is located in tlie northwestern part of the Loess Plateau with a total area of 15581.5km2. Its ecological environment is fragile, and the quality of natural resonrces is declining obviously in recent years.2. Present situation of the land desertification: The land desertification in the northwestern part of Shanxi Province is mainly caused by the dynamic achon of wind and water. According to the statistical data from remote sensing mapping, the water dynamic desertified land area ia up to 12673km2, which occupies 81% of the total land area, and the wind dynamic desertified land area ias up to 14242km2, which occupies 91% of the total land area. The surface of the most land in this region is affected by the double-action of water and wind dynamic processes. The intensity of their action, howevcr, is obviously different within region.3. Evaluahon of the deserhfication harmfulness: The deserhficahon hazards in the northwestern part of Shanxi Province are characterized by frequent and regular occurrence, widespread distribution, and heavy economic loss.更多还原
