【Abstract】 Both the opening and closure of floral glumes delayed in male sterile line of wild abortion type in rice.The glume-unclosed percentage was high .Being directly exposed to natural light, the kernels developed in those unclosed floral glumes grew abnormally. The pericarp growth and the division of endosperm cells were inhibited.The water content of the kernels decreased too early so that it led up to decrescence.It not only reduced grain weight and increased the hollow kernels, but also formed sharp apexes in kernels. If the glume-unclosed kernels were covered with tinfoil paper bags for light-shading and keeping humidity ,the kernel would develop normally and grew beyond the lemma and the plea.
