【摘要】 英国Lancaster大学语言学与现代英语系教授、英国学院院士Geoffrey N.Leech是我国英语界所熟悉的著名语言学家。1994年9月14日至25日,他应邀来北京外国语大学讲学,并愉快地应聘为北京外国语大学名誉教授。本文是他的就职讲演。 本文论述英语语法的三种发展趋势:1)由屈折语向孤立语演变;2)英语语法美语化;3)英语语法口语化。作者追溯了这些变化的历史,又从词法、所有格形式等描述了英语由屈折语向孤立语演化的过程。英语语法的美语化和口语化在相当程度上助长了英语的孤立化趋势。计算机语料库(corpus)的开发建设使英语发展趋势的研究有广阔的前景。更多还原
