【Abstract】 1688 hand phalanges and 803 foot phalanges of unknown sex were studied for the number, position and direction of the nutrient foramina. It was found that each of these bones had one nutrient foramen at the two-thirds part of the distal shaft. Double foramina were occasionally found in the proximal phalanges of the fingers. Most of the foramina were situated on or close to the both borders of the palmar side. Almost all nutrient canals were directed away form the growing end. The anomalously directed canals, occasionally found in adult long bones, were a rudiment of the canals of the proximal nutrient artery of the fetus.更多还原
