Based on the distribution and depositional evolution of the Devonian, Carboniferous, and especially from Permian to Lower Triassic of southeast China, relating the effect and control of the Palaeotethys on them in these periods, the paper proposes the depositional and structural model for the development of the marginal rift system in the southeast of South China continental mass from later Palaeozoic to early Triassic age.
