【Abstract】 Since the EXXON VALDEZ ran on the rocks and gave rise to a crude oil leak of 36, 000 tonnes,in March 1989. International public opinion has attached great importance to this accident. ln March 1993,the International Marine Organization (IMO) amended the "International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from ships (MARPOL 73/78)",and thereafter the double hull structures are enforced in the VLCC construction. The amend ment process of the convention,the various stuctural types of VLCC to meet the convention are introduced. The current trends and the associated problems such as maintenance,monitoring,corrosion,sloshing and fatigue are dis cussed. The mid-deck structure and the double hull structure are compared. The VLCC structures that may be con sidered in future and the structural design trends are forecasted更多还原
