【Abstract】 The effects of P2O5 and V2O5 on the phase separation and crystallization of CaO- Al2O3-SiO2 system glasses have been studied by means of DTA,ESR,STEM SADP,XBD and so on,Crysallization of the glasses containing P2O5 only occurs on the surface,the surface crystallization temperature increases with increase of P2O5 content , P2O5 can promote phase separation in the base glass. The feature of phase separation is that some certain spheroidal phases enriched with Si and Al are embeded in a continuous matrix phase. V2O5 can induoe the glass to crystallize internally if its content is more than 0.6 mol%. The glass melted at reducing atmosphere has lower crytallization temperature than that of glass melted at oxidi-zing atmosphere. The main states of vanadium in the former glass are V ̄(3+)and T ̄(4+),while in the latter are V ̄(5+)。V ̄(5+) ions were transformed into V ̄(4+)and V ̄(3+) during the process of heat treatment.The existence of lower valence ions of vandadium will greatly contribute to the volume crystallization of the glasses.
