【Abstract】 The effects of mannitol and sodiumbenzoate on the toxicity and antitumor activity ofdoxorubicin (Dox) were investigated.Rat hvermitochondria were incubated with Dox and the inhibi-tion of the cytochrome C oxidase activity by Dox wasmeasured.The cytochrome C oxidase activity wasstrongly depressed (42.1%,P<0.001)by Dox,whereasthis activity was well restored in mannitol or sodiumbenzoate. It was also found that Doxinducedinhibition of[3H]TdR incorporation into DNA ofHRT- 18 cells in vitro was not affected by mannitol orsodium benzoate.The protection of mannitol orsodium benzoate against the mitochondria toxicity ofDox appears no interference with the antitumoractivity of Dox.更多还原
