The role of major genes in the expression of serum cholestrol levels was investigated in data colleted from 1517 individuals by the commingling analysis method.A mixture of two skewed normal distributions best characterized the data. This result is compalibe with a major gene hypothesis and suggests further investigations involving complex segregation analysis and models of gene—covariate interactions to determine the existence of the major genes.
